Today, after marching on the streets to commemorate for World AIDS day, the World AIDS day on January 1st ceremony was held at Maetao clinic in Mae Sot, Thailand from 9am to 12 noon.
The students from all the migrant schools and the members from Mae Sot based CBOs like Social Action for Women (SAW), Foundation for Education Development (FED), Empower, International Organization Migrants (IOM), Burma Migrant Workers’ Education Committee (BMWEC), Social Health Development Association (SHDA), Mae Tao Clinic (MTC), World Vision, Children Development Center (CDC), many NGOs and the HIV/AIDS patients have actively participated in the ceremony.
In the ceremony, Dr. Lun Swe, the vice-chairman of Burma Medical Association (BMA) gave a speech regarding HIV/AIDS and U Mahn Shwe, the principle of Children Development Center (CDC) had offered the rewards for World HIV/AIDS day’s educational contests to the winners. SAW school’s students had won third place for senior level essay contest, third place for mid-level essay contest and the complementary reward for reading poem contest.
As for SAW’s fund, SAW’s Health Care House (HCH) had sold the handicrafts, wool purses, handbags, hair-clips, beautiful ropes to know hair and name-tags made by the women living in SAW’s Health Care House (HCH) in the ceremony. Also, FED had played some quizzes with regard to HIV/AIDS. The Best Friend School from 42Kilo in Phop Phra area also had celebrated World AIDS day by doing some social activities among the children and the local residents.
In Mae Sot area, the annual ceremony of World AIDS day has been holding by the community based organizations, migrant workers and HIV/AIDS patients for every year. In this year, more than 1000 people have participated in it.
